🚨 Warning: Season 2 spoilers ahead! 🚨
Fans of Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer have plenty of reasons to be shocked by the events of season two, but one of the most horrifying developments might just be the lack of screen time for Neve Campbell’s character, Maggie McPherson. Her role became especially scarce after episode six, when we learned of Maggie’s decision to take a new job in San Diego.
Maggie played a huge part in season one. From her work as a criminal prosecutor to her and Mickey’s will-they-won’t-they love affair — not to mention their shared daughter, Hayley — we never thought we’d see Maggie go so soon. But don’t freak out just yet, there seems to be a perfectly rational explanation for Maggie’s swift departure and limited story line in season two.
It seems the events of the latest season have more to do with Campbell’s busy schedule than Maggie’s fate in the series. Campbell, who is best known for her role as Sidney Prescott in the Scream movies, was working on a couple other projects during filming for season two of The Lincoln Lawyer. The actress was cast in Peacock’s new series Twisted Metal and a pilot for a show called Avalon, the latter of which ABC ended up passing on. This explains her less involved role in season two, but we are confident Maggie will return to the show in full force (if Netflix renews it for a third season, that is).
How do we know this, you might ask? Well, we don’t really, but we are taking hints from the Michael Connelly books the series is based on. So far, the series has followed the plot of the books closely, but not in order necessarily. If this trend continues, Maggie will play a big role in upcoming seasons.
For now, we’re all waiting to hear any news about the next season, though, with the current writers’ and actors’ strikes, it may be a while. In the meantime, you can catch up on seasons one and two of The Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix.
